Augusto Fernández: “When you have an opportunity like this, you have to take it”
You’ve just made your debut at the Moto2 World Championship, – A dream come true?
-Yes, first dream came true. I’m very happy to have been able to get here and now I’s time to work to make the second dream came true, which is being World Champion.
You were riding at the FIM CEV, you got a podium at the first race, your goal was to fight to be European Champion, – How did this opportunity come about?
-Everything was very fast, in a week I changed from being a FIM CEV rider to a World Championship rider and make my debut at Mugello, it’s been incredible.
Did you have to think a lot about it?
-No, when you have an opportunity like this, you just have to take it. In a week time, I was called to do a test in Misano and the next week we were at Mugello ready to debut. It’s a good team and we can make a good performance with them.
You’ve changed championships, but you’re in the same class (Moto2), what’s the difference between the Suter at the FIM CEV and the Speed Up at the World Championship?
-The main changes are the chassis and the engine a bit, but the motorbike is more or less the same.
How did your first race at the World Championship go?
-I would have liked to do it better, because I think that I had rhythm to do it better, but we are strong and looking forward to improving in the next race.
Have you noticed any difference between the FIM CEV and the World Championship?
-Yes, it’s another world. The paddock, the fans… Everything is bigger. Really nice.
How do you feel with the team? And with your teammate Corsi? Did they give you any advice?
-Very good. It’s a very professional team and they welcome me very well since the beginning. With Corsi the same, we talked after every practice and exchanged our feelings and he also gave me some advice about the track. I’m very good here.
What’s the goal for this year?
-The goal is to keep improving and being able to fight for the points.
