Augusto takes his first victory of the season in Barcelona after a great comeback
Augusto won the second race of the third FIM CEV Moto2 European Championship round, that took place at Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit, which means the first victory of the season. He did it after an exciting last lap, because despite a bad start which made him lose a lot of time and go back to as low as 10th position, he was able to recover that lost time and, with 2 laps to go, get just behind Jesko Raffin, who was leading the race. In the last lap, both of them came through a lapped rider, and Augusto took advantage of this situation and overtook the Swiss rider. Jesko overtook Augusto back, but finally it was the Spanish rider who crossed the finish line in first position.
This victory came in the second race of the day, after the easyRace Moto2 rider had to settle with a second place in Race 1, after being disadvantaged by a bad start and the following comeback that destroyed his rear tyre. Nonetheless, the race was full of excitement as he battled hard with Jesko Raffin, who finally won the first race of the day.
Specifically, on Saturday Augusto told us that to be able to fight for the championship title and avoid Jesko extending his championship advantage, he knew he had to start winning races – and that is exactly what he did. After this race, Augusto stays 10 points behind Raffin in the general standings and keeps in the fight for the title, the battle for which will continue on July 29th at MotorLand Aragón.

“I’m really happy. I want to say thank you and dedicate this victory to my family and my team as it’s been a really tough season for us. Like in the first race, I did a really bad start, but then I started pushing hard to be able to get to Jesko and Tulovic. I had no grip in my rear tyre, but I think I was lucky at the end of the race with the lapped riders. As soon as I saw the gap I overtook Jesko and tried to close all the doors. I’m really happy and this win and these points are really good for the championship”.
