Bad luck for Augusto Fernández in Austria as he becomes the victim of another rider’s crash
The race Sunday in Austria was dawning with the sky completely clear and the highest temperatures recorded during the whole weekend, with 27ºC in the environment and 41ºC in the asphalt, which made presage a good show in the fast circuit of Spielberg.
Lorenzo Baldassarri and Augusto Fernández started the race from the ninth and thirteenth positions, respectively. Both were confident in being able to do a good race, since throughout the weekend they had shown a rhythm and pace to fight for the top positions. Baldassarri has made a very good start and immediately recovered position, placing fourth, whilst Augusto managed to maintain his position and little by little was catching his rivals to join the group in which his teammate was fighting.
It was precisely at that moment, in the third lap of the grand prix, when Baldassarri, who was riding seventh, at the exit of turn three was involved in an incident with another rider and he could not avoid falling. But the bad luck was double for Augusto coming behind and not being able to dodge Baldassarri’s bike and fell to the ground too, being forced to retire on the spot.
Augusto Fernández, not classified
“It was a shame to end a weekend that was going well, I felt very strong and good today, I did not go out badly and gradually I was recovering positions, I felt able to be with the drivers in front and we were already coming, and with the collapse of my teammate I could not avoid falling to the ground too. Above all it is a bad result for the team because in the same fall we both fell, but that’s the way it is racing. I want to thank the team because we are working very well and we are getting closer and closer to our goal. “
