Augusto Fernández makes a great start to his Thailand GP weekend
The MotoGP World Championship today took to the new circuit layout of Buriram in Thailand, under conditions of high temperatures and humidity.
The premiere of the Pons HP 40 squad in this new and unknown venue has been very positive.
In the morning, Augusto Fernández dedicated the first contact with the circuit to familiarise himself with the layout and start looking for a good set-up. So good have been the sensations for Fernández that he managed to finish the first session in fifth position.
The good morning’s work was reflected in the second session of the day. Augusto improved his timings as well as adjusting the set-up of his Kalex. He eventually finished the day sixth, stopping the clock in 1: 37.339, thus completing a good first contact for the HP Pons 40.
Augusto Fernández, 6th, 1: 37.339 (+0.500)
“First day in Thailand on a new circuit and the truth is that we have adapted quite well… it is a fairly simple circuit and we are all very tight in terms of time, in the morning we have placed fifth and in the afternoon sixth, improving a lot in the second session and I’m sure that tomorrow will probably be further down, despite finishing sixth I still have a bit of feeling with the bike since I’m not totally comfortable, but this afternoon we will work with the team and we will be aiming for these positions again tomorrow and trying to cut the distance with the leaders.”
