Good start for Augusto in Australia
Australia and the impressive Phillip Island circuit has welcomed the riders of the MotoGP World Championship as usual, with low temperatures and a strong wind, though, accompanied by a bright sun and a light rain in the morning.
Pons HP 40 riders, Augusto Fernández and Lorenzo Baldassarri, used the first morning practice session in order to familiarise themselves with the Australian layout and start working on the correct set-up of the bike, after the good results of both in the last GP.
Young Spaniard Augusto is clearly in good shape. With some problems in the morning, close work with his crew has made them able to solve them in the second free practice. Working a lot on the rhythm, Augusto has felt comfortable at all times, even being able to squeeze into the last moments of the session a great time of 1: 34.352, which enabled him to close the day in a good eighth position.
Augusto Fernández, 8th, 1: 34.352 (+0.651)
“This first day was a bit weird, since we started the day with rain, we always worked with a single tire in the morning, and despite some problems, we were quick, and in the afternoon we solved the morning’s problems and I have worked on improving many aspects of the track as far as riding and not so much on the bike, as we have quite a clear path, we finished the first day eighth and still with things to improve tomorrow, but are happy nonetheless.”
