Augusto’s Malaysian GP weekend ends in a fall

After a complicated Qualifying session, Augusto Fernández felt confident of a strong race in Malaysia today. Sadly it was not to be.

Augusto had the worst luck come race day. The Spanish rider of the Pons HP 40 squad made a good start, climbing several positions after starting eleventh.

After riding with the front group, Augusto saw that he lacked some rhythm to be able to continue to fight with them, so he has settled in the second group, always within the top 10, but sadly he fell and was forced to abandon the race.

It’s a great pity since he could have finished the race with good points. The important thing is however that he suffered no physical injury on account of the crash.

The HP 40 Pons squad leaves Malaysia and will finish the 2018 season at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Cheste, on November 16, 17 and 18.

Augusto Fernández, DNF.
“It was a bad way to end the weekend with a crash. Today we did not have the perfect set-up in the race, we missed a bit. I went well, finishing the first lap sixth, but I lacked some pace to keep up with those in front of m. In the eighth position I was more comfortable but I made a mistake and I fell. I ask the team for forgiveness since we could have had another good result but it’s time to think about Valencia and go back to work to be in front.”
