Eighth position for Augusto Fernández in Valencia qualifying
The weather in Valencia has given a truce to the riders and teams today and the rain has hardly made an appearance and the two days of practice have been played out for Moto2 with practically dry asphalt.
The Pons HP 40 riders completed a very good day, both achieving a good qualifying session.
Already in the morning, both riders were able to find the good feelings in their Kalex and continue working and improving in the set-up. Augusto Fernández placed fourteenth. But the most important thing: he was full of confidence to face the timed Qualifying session of the afternoon.
And so it was. From the beginning, both Augusto and teammate Baldassarri placed themselves in the front positions, doing good team work. Until the last lap Baldassarri had been pressing, marking his best time, 1: 36.270, which helped him to come fifth. And only three more positions back on the grid will be Augusto, eighth, a superb stopping the clock in 1: 36.380. It has been a very positive day for the Pons HP 40 riders that will allow them to safely face the last GP of the season and say goodbye to the year in style.
The race tomorrow, scheduled to 25 laps, will be at 12:20 local time.
Augusto Fernández, 8th, 1: 36.380 (+0.603)
“It was a good timed Qualifying. After all the wet weekend we were able to run dry, we improved in the last free and I felt very comfortable, we made a good set-up and the eighth place was a good result. The race paints at being the wet and will surely be long, so it is important not to fall and finish the season well.”
