Augusto all set for Sachsenring challenge
The tight, twisty and undulating 3.7km Sachsenring track hosts the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team this weekend as Augusto Fernandez and teammate Sam Lowes look to build on a double top 10 at the previous round in Catalunya.
A fighting fifth place for Fernandez and solid seventh for Lowes marked the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team’s 200th Grand Prix appearance in positive fashion in Catalunya and the pair have their sights set on a podium challenge in Sunday’s 28-lap German Moto2 round.
With 10 left corners, the Sachsenring is one of only five anti-clockwise tracks on the World Championship schedule, but one of its three right turns is the spectacular blind entry and downhill turn 12 taken in fifth gear.
Fernandez showed his fighting qualities and brilliant speed in Barcelona to follow up a season best qualifying performance with an attacking display in the race to finish only one second away from the podium.
On his last visit to the Sachsenring in 2019, the Spaniard was one of the fastest and most consistent on track all weekend and he started and finished inside the top six.
“I’m really looking forward to starting the weekend in Sachsenring after such a good result in Barcelona. The top five in the last race gives me a lot of motivation to be back at the front again this weekend. Sachsenring is a track where I had a strong performance in 2019 both in qualifying and the race and I’m confident I can battle with the lead group again on Sunday.”
