Qualifying for the German Grand Prix was held at a scorching Sachsenring on Saturday, and Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 riders Augusto Fernandez and teammate Pedro Acosta both made their way into Q2 at the first time of asking. Augusto will take off from third in Sunday’s race.

Both of them had previously been the two fastest riders on Friday, although they were unable to match those times in the early stages of FP3. Augusto remained high up the order, whilst Acosta searched for a strong pace. After returning to the pits, both improved their times from Friday. Augusto was third with a time of 1:23.957, achieved on his 19th lap of 23.

Moving straight into Q2, the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 riders faced ever-increasing temperatures that have been a constant throughout the weekend so far, rising to over 50ºC on track. Past the midway point, the pair both upped their pace, Augusto pushing in the final minutes to claim third, setting a 1:23.825 on his seventh lap of nine. With this result, he’ll be on front row tomorrow.

The 28-lap Moto2 German Grand Prix will take place at 12:20 PM local time on Sunday.

“It’s important to start from the front row here, because it’s a circuit where it is difficult to overtake, and especially with these temperatures. We have to get a good start and stay up at the front. I have a good pace and I feel comfortable. The race is very long, so we have to know how to manage it.”
